About Slotted Hex Nuts

Slotted Hex Nuts are hex nuts with slots protruding from the top, similar to castle nuts. To use a slotted nut, a hole is drilled through the threaded portion of a bolt or stud. A cotter pin is then placed through the slots and holes and deformed so it cannot easily be removed. These feature six slotted sides to allow a cotter pin to freely pass through its body. Slotted Hex Nuts are specially designed to be used with a bolt, screw, or stud that has received a hole drilled through its threads.
